Secular Party of America Voter Fraud

On July 14, 2013, the “membership-driven” National Atheist Party announced to its members and the world that finally, after months of campaigning to change the party’s name to the more inclusive “Secular Party of America” (SPoA) and a harrowing two-day voting period, that the name change was a reality. The membership had overwhelmingly agreed to move the party into exciting new territory with over 75% voting to approve the measure. However, it wasn’t the membership that pushed the proposition over the ¾ mark…it was the Executive Board. Two prior members of the party have come forward to say that the vote was rigged, and that they couldn’t sit in silence any longer. Former Art Director Christopher Thomas was the first to come to us with this story. He had been working heavily on the campaign and was invested in the name change, believing that the only way for the party to truly become a viable entity in the political arena was for it to open its doors to members of all faiths. People that may have previously stayed away because of the “Atheist” moniker, while still believing in the tenets of the party: secular government. Knowing this, on the last night of voting, Christopher was approached by his supervisor, the Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing, Bernie “Flash” Kellish July 13 at 11:00pm PST, to “Keep a secret” because he would be “hung out to dry if this gets out.” Flash then asked Christopher to help rig the vote by using all of his various email addresses to vote in favor of the name change (as well as for the other propositions on the ballot so things wouldn’t look suspicious).

According to the Secular Party of America’s new website: “We are committed to a government free of superstition and bias and are guided by principles of equal opportunity, recognition of merit, and economic responsibility. The Secular Party of America does not seek to inhibit the religious practices or beliefs of any group, but is committed to the idea that religious preference is a private matter and has no place in the government or workplace. We support the separation of church and state and seek to ensure its strictest interpretation.” Unfortunately, one thing the Secular Party of America does not seem to support is honesty. The second person to approach us was the National Atheist Party’s former Executive Board member, Sheila Blackadder. Sheila was approached by Flash regarding her impending resignation, to happen the day after the vote. Flash asked if she would stay if the name change happened and if she would be terribly opposed to them “um…making sure it passes?” Flash continued, “If we could ‘fluff’ the %, how would that sit with you?…I refuse to let ignorant fucks that haven’t done shit for the party get to dictate what the majority wants and doom the party.” Her response was simple, “As for ‘fixing the vote’ I can’t say that will improve my view of the party.” Sheila Blackadder and Flash Kellish

James Klawon, Vice President of Operations also came to Sheila struggling with the quandary of what to do, stating that “it comes down to the question of keep the name and let it die or rig the results and try to take another route…save it I reckon. Tough call.”

Sheila never felt right about the actions or the outcome and made sure to take screenshots of the events that occurred that night. Her screenshots included some of the fake emails created to help add to the vote count will.aman@usanap.org, will.bman@usanap.org and so on…

It should be noted that this article was not a simple thing for us at A-News to run with.  We set out to aid, inform, and entertain the Atheist community, not to police it.  However if we are ever to thrive as a community we can not allow our groups to ignore the kind of honesty and evidence based reasoning that we claim to cherish just as we cannot ignore evidence when it is presented to us.  Christopher Thomas and Sheila Blackadder should be applauded for their bravery in exposing this and we at A-News wish them the very best. Should the now “Secular Party of America” wish to respond to this we will gladly have them on our podcast or post such a reply here.  At A-News we are fair and balanced and do not accuse anyone of anything without overwhelming evidence and cited sources. This article was a collaboration between myself and Erin Fortes.  The both of us are former volunteers of the National Atheist Party. For updates on this story follow us on Facebook
